Said he was bullied and beaten by students for years.
Murder in the School Goddard, Kansas, a former farming town 12 miles west of Wichita, has evolved into a model suburban community, the kind in which doors remain unlocked and people take pride in the schools. That sense of communal well-being was shattered last week when a student carrying a rifle and a pistol entered the school and opened fire.
A popular junior high school principal was killed and two teachers and a student were wounded.
James Alan Kearbey, 14 years old, was charged with first-degree murder. The police refused to discuss possible motives, but a teacher said the youth was a loner with a quick temper who was fascinated by weapons. The teen-ager was often teased by classmates, several people said, and recently had been beaten by two students in a locker-room fight, according to a neighbor. |
