There are 3 major gangs in this city. The West Side Modesto (West Side Boys) gang, the East Side Modesto gang, and the South Side Modesto gangs. The South side gang is split into several different cliques which are the Deep South Side gang XIV, the Nightowl gang XIV, and the South side Surenos XIII. The colors the XIV gangs associate themselves with is RED. The Sureno gang associates itself with the color BLUE.

* The actual number of members may be higher by 1,000 to 3,000 people.
* The vast majority of documented gang members, 87 percent, are Latino, though Asian, black and white gangs exist, too.
* From January to April 2007, there were 23 gang-related shootings at homes, vehicles and people in Modesto.
* Preliminary data from this year indicate there have been about 20 shootings.
* Modesto has had eight homicides this year. At least three were gang-related.

In Modesto the most active gangs are Nortenos. In the East Side there is one of the biggest and oldest known as Airport District XIV, There is ESM and Northern Pride with other Norteno gangs coming up . In the West Side there is West Side Boyz, Vernon Block, Wicked West Riderz, Varrio West Side. In the South Side there are Deep South SIde Modesto, Original Gangster Locos and Young Gangster Locos both calling O.G. South Side home, Park Lawn Boyz, Varrio South Side Modesto, Night Owls. In the North there is UNG and North Side Boyz.
Modesto as always been a Norteno town and will remain that way.

Unknown, you can keep bumpin your gums on the internet but walk outside and take a look around. I've probably seen about 5 Surenos in the last 5 years in Modesto, and hundreds of Nortenos. Surenos are barely a factor and they keep hidden most of the time. I'm not saying they're punks, because if I claimed blue in Modesto I would probably stay locked inside my house all day too...But they're barely visible, and those that are out you can't tell if they're g's or paisas.
