Guys it's been awhile since I've contributed to the forum. I was terminated from my position with a certain State correctional department for conduct "Conduct unbecoming". Let me tell my story, an i would really like some input on what you all think.
Ok here goes. Back in January of this year I was approached by a convict who told me he had been setup by his peers. He told me they {other convicts} had come in while he had been out on a writ and had cleaned out his locker. Stole everything he had. this guy tells me" I'm is going to start gutting some M#@+&%F*&^%$# real soon". I pulled him into the office and told him to calm down a minute and see what we could do to make things just a little easier. I gave him a smoke an he told me " I'll give you these guys, f&^% em all". You want drugs, weapons, hell I'll even give you a couple cell phones to. Well he had my attetion at this point, after endless searches for cell phones and coming up empty handed I was going to basically have them handed to me.
Since he had been cleaned out I thiught I would further this along by getting him a few small item's candy, thing s like that so I could gain some trust from this guy. So my Lt comes in later for rounds and I explain the entire converstion, and what i had done. She tells to be real careful and watch for a setup, but if this guy can deliver go for it.
So the next day the same convict comes back over to my work station and low and behold I've got 5 shanks and 30 hits of trip{BLotter Acid}. This guy tells me " there's more were that came from", and I'm getting the low {actual Information} on those cell phones as we speak. He then asks me for a pouch of tabbaco because when he got cleaned oput that was the one thing he wanted the most. I told him sure and as soon as I get these cell phones I'll give you one more.
So once again my Lt is making rounds, I explained everything that happened that day. turn over the weapons I received and the alledged drugs. And I also explained the tabbaco. Once again I get the Be real careful speech and the go ahead to continue.
The next day the convict come sover to my work station and asks if everything s cool. I told him it is. he tells me he's got the location on those phones and better yet that he knows how their coming in. He relates to me that a certain officer is selling them for 300% proffit. I told him he had better be dam sure he knew what he was talking about. And that if this got out now we both could end up getting the boots put to us. He said " he knew exactly the conseqeunces", and that he was being real careful. He gave me 20 more hits of this alledged blotter acid and went on his way.
Now at this point I'm thinking to my self I've got to talk to my Lt right now because of the situation and the names being thrown out by this convict in reference to the introduction of cell phones.
So we meet in the Amin building and I tell my LT the entire conversation and the Lt says it's tiime to make the Captain aware fo this situation. We go down the hall to the Captains office and lay out the entire three days for him. well needless to say after laying everything out the room got very quiet. The Captain then asks for the officers names who are allededly bringing in these cell phones I told him I would not do this because i had NO proof at this time to back up my information and I wasn't going to put names out without concrete eveidence.
I explained to the captain that iwas getting the info on the cell phone locations in the morning and he gave me the green light to continue, he also let me hand pick two other officers that i knew I could trust to assist me in these shakedowns.
Well the next night we get approved for O.T. and myself and the two other officers go in and do our thing we spent about five hours searching and all we came up with were some tools. Needless to say I was pissed. But hey that's life in a prison. I knew we had to be on to the right track but this ocnvict was gonna hear it from me now on why we didn't find the phones.
So now we The Capt., Lt and myself go into the inspectors office and self report the entirety of this investigation and the results. Thank god I took daily notes each time I had contact with this convict. Capt, Lt,. are put on "stop Orders" and I am moved out of contact with any prisoners untill the inspector cann run his own investigation to see if there was any wrong doing on our part.
I knew without a doubt that I was good to go because there was no personal gain for me in any of this only the betterment of the facility and I had the approval of my shift command.
Now policy states that you can not give any gifts for personal gain,sex or favors.
Which I, We didnot.
Well I go into my disciplinary hearing and end up getting terminated and at the end of the hearing the warden asks me about my involvement with the S.T.G. program. I told her I was a member of the S.T.G. group pn shift and that it had been productive but hings were pretty qiuet right now. I found this a odd question because it had no relevence what so ever with why i was up there.
I talked to my captain a few weeks later on the phone and gave him the entire run down of what had happened and he relayed to me " you know why the warden asked you about the S.T.G. program don't you" I was completely ignorant of what he was saying and he relayed to me that 6 months proir the same convict that came to me had gone the administration and told them that the second shift S.T.G. group was threatning, strong arming , paying for information on the gangs in the facility. And that he had already set up another officer six months proir doing the same thing he had with me. And that no action of any kind had been given twords this other officer. now that our investigation had come about the Administrtion had to back pedal fast to cover their asses and get this convict transferred out. which they shoul've done in the very beginning when he initially came at this other officer.
So here i am 4 months into unemployment looking for work and watching the state drag their feet.
i know this is long but please shoot me questions and I will gladly answer them.
